Vol en avion – Flying a plane 🇲🇶

Grâce aux collègues de Matt, nous avons pu nous envoler pour observer l’île depuis le ciel (merci à eux !). Sur la plateforme wingly, les pilotes proposant des vols de jour n’étaient pas disponibles. Nous avons donc choisi un vol au coucher de soleil, rendez-vous sur la Zone d’aviation générale de l’aéroport du Lamentin le 12/07/23 à 18h. Notre pilote Sacha avait un petit retard dû à un vol précédent, et nous avons un peu attendu sur la piste pendant les essais moteurs avant d’avoir l’autorisation de décoller. Nous décollons donc au moment où le soleil vient de se coucher. Les paysages restent beaux vus d’en haut, et les villes s’illuminent au fur et à mesure du vol. Les deux jours précédents étant très pluvieux, nous appréhendions pour le temps mais ce 12 juillet l’était un peu moins. Les gros nuages sont présents mais pas d’averse en vol. Avec le relief accidenté de l’île, les turbulences sont nombreuses mais nous pouvons partir en direction du large quand cela arrive. Matt s’essaie au co-pilotage mais vole soit trop bas, soit trop à l’intérieur des terres 🤓 🛬. Quelques photos et vidéos.

Thanks to Matt’s colleagues, we were able to take off and see the island from the air on a small plane. None of the pilots offering daytime flights were available on the Wingly platform. So, we opted for a sunset flight, meeting at the Lamentin airport’s general aviation zone on 12/07/23 at 6pm. Our pilot Sacha was running a little late due to a previous flight, and we had to wait a little on the runway during engine tests before getting clearance to take off. So we take off just as the sun was setting. The scenery is still beautiful from above, and the cities light up as the flight progresses. The previous two days had been very rainy, but luckily the rain had subsided a bit (the North of the island was still under the clouds). There are heavy clouds, but no heavy rain during flight. With the island’s rugged terrain, there’s plenty of turbulence, but we can head further over the water when this happens. Matt tries his hand at co-piloting but flies either too low or too far inland 🤓 🛬. Here are a few photos and videos.

Rapidement la nuit tombe, nos équipements photographiques n’étaient malheureusement pas adaptés. – Soon enough the night falls. Our camera are not equipped to take good pictures but the scenery is still beautiful, with the towns and harbours sparkling.
